Potty Training at Night: Part 1

(She dressed herself this day and thought it was pretty funny that she was wearing her brother's tie. Also, that is the "stinky diaper face" she does in hip hop class. Hilarious!)

This little girl of mine is such a fun little kiddo. She is helpful, kind, and sensitive. And if you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know that potty training her was not fun. We started way too early, pushed her into it, and she had consistent accidents for almost 2 years. Finally, a couple of months before turning 4, she decided staying dry was worth it and she started going to the bathroom all on her own all of the time. Phew!
She is now almost 4 1/2 and we've never even tried to potty train her at night. It just didn't seem like something that would be possible right now because her pull up is still wet every morning. But we have now decided to give it a chance anyway.
For 3 nights, we've had her in underwear and here's the low down.
Night 1: She went to bed at 8pm, I got her up at 11pm to go to the bathroom and when she was up at 7am, she was a little bit wet. Also, no drinks were given after dinner.
Night 2: She went to bed at 8pm, I got her up at 10pm to go to the bathroom, I got her up at 2am to go to the bathroom, and at 6:30am, she was still dry! She was so darn proud of herself!
Night 3{last night}: She went to bed at 10pm and I completely forgot about the no drink rule and she had had a lot of drinks before bed. So I woke her up at 11pm and 12pm and 1am to go to the bathroom. Seems fine and dandy, right?
Wrong.
Every single time I got her up, it took at least 30 minutes to get her back to bed because she was crying over scraped knees. I'm dead serious (She fell at the park earlier in the day.). I'm pretty sure the scraped knees were only part of the problem because she was so tired. I think she was just sick of waking up and was getting emotional. But I didn't really get to bed until 2am and when I tried to wake her up the next time, she started crying and wouldn't even get out of bed. And my goodness, I just wanted to go to sleep! So I did what everyone told me not to do and I put a diaper on her and fell asleep for the rest of the night.
So I don't really know what to do from here. If every night could be like "night 2", I'd keep going with this! But when I lose sleep, I'm not a very pleasant person. I think that's why God helped me out and both of my newborns slept through the night at only weeks old.
On the other hand, Petey does NOT like diapers and keeps begging me to buy her princess pull ups but I'm not really willing to spend double the money for something that holds pee just the same. This is kind of the whole reason we started nighttime potty training. I told her if she didn't want to wear a diaper, she needed to try to stay dry at night and be a big girl.
Also, I know 3 days isn't really enough time to see if she can do this. I think I'm going to give it another week and if it's just horrible and doesn't work out, she'll have to deal with diapers for a while.

But seriously, any advice is welcome and helpful. I know she may just not be ready for this but if this is just how nighttime potty training starts out and it gets easier, let me know so I can push through this hard time! I'll deal with the sleep loss if it means helping my girl stay dry at night in the long run.

Potty Training with Fire

My son is one super awesome kid. Seriously. Not only can he potty train like a champ, he can save our house from burning down. How, you ask?Well, let me tell you!
Around 4pm today, I noticed my champion potty trainer had had a small accident in his underwear so I sent him to the bathroom and I went to grab him some underwear from the dryer.
Upon opening the dryer, I noticed FLAMES in the back so I yelled "Fire!" (so Boss would know to come running) and quickly got all of the clothes out of the dryer (Not a single piece of clothing was burned. Booyah!).
Boss quickly unhooked the dryer and we took it out back...you know, just in case it blew up or something. :)
The smell/smoke in the laundry room seemed to get worse and Boss was worried that the fire was somewhere in the walls but after much checking, a trip to the attic, and a couple of trips around the house, we concluded that there was no more fire. Phew! The smell ended up going away after a while so we definitely feel like we are in the clear for our house being safe.
Double phew!
After all of the excitement was over, I decided my little boy is a superstar. This kid that had 3 accidents the first day and then NONE the next 2 days (Yesterday was a fluke and he had 4 accidents.) decided to have an accident at 4pm when I needed to check that dryer. Otherwise, the whole thing could've blown up. And that's not me being sarcastic.
So do I still think my son is a pro potty trainer? YES!
And am I seriously so so so so SO glad that he peed his pants this afternoon? TRIPLE YES!

Thank you, super awesome son of mine. Feel free to have more accidents anytime you need to tell me there's a fire in the house. :)

And that's how Suze sees it.

The 2nd Child Growing Up

What have we been up to the past couple of days?
Oh, you know, just potty training my son.
I'm only being slightly sarcastic.
You see, Spidey has been asking to use the potty many times in the past months and it has become more and more frequent. Also, a week or two ago, our little man went #2 on the potty all by himself!
I posted on Facebook, asking my fellow mom friends what they would do if there 27 month old was acting interested and I also mentioned that Petey started potty training at 26 months and it took 15 months to fully potty train her (As in, it just sunk in 6 weeks ago...)! That being said, I've dreaded the day that my son would want to potty train because after that first experience, I never wanted to potty train a kid again!
But all of my friends said to try it and see what happens. So I did...

Little Man was beyond excited to be wearing underwear like this big sis.And luckily, it wasn't too cold for him to play outside with no pants on (because I was not about to clean up a bunch of messes inside).

One accident happened...he sat on the potty...nothing...tons of juice was consumed...he sat on the potty...nothing...two accidents now happened...and I put him back in a diaper.

He screamed when the diaper went on and begged to sit back on the potty but I (mean mommy) was done and wasn't ready anyway so on that diaper went!

Tweny minutes went by and we were in the middle of playing a game when my boy grabs his diaper and says this: "Huh! Oh no! *insert mischevious grin here* I go peepee in my diaper. I did it! Yay!"

What?! Petey never told me when she went potty in her diaper. Ever. She still wouldn't. So yes, I know my boy is ready. The problem is mommy isn't ready. So we will wait until he becomes more adamant about potty training and then we'll push forward.

All of this makes me realize how fast my baby boy is growing up. Can't he just stop it for a little while?

Am I really that close to potty training child #2? We were just doing this last year! I guess that's what happens when you have babies a little over a year apart. :)

And that's how Suze sees it.

PS: The ONLY thing that tempts me to potty train my little boy right now is the cost of diapers. Seriously...they're so expensive! And I buy the cheap ones! :)

Wild Wednesday

I find it funny that I use the same title and label every Wednesday and yet, there is no theme to my Wednesday posts anymore.

Oh well, right? My blog, my rules.

(the closest picture she would get with the Easter bunny at the mall)

Miss Petey is going to be having a birthday in a little over 3 weeks. And this will be her first year of having a friends birthday party---though we have asked that none of the children bring her presents. We just want to give her a special day, doing fun things with her closest friends.

Can I believe my girly is almost 3? No, not really. It seems like she is always having a birthday party! As in, her life really is passing me by so quickly. I promise, it's even quicker than the average mom feels about her children growing up. :)

Remember all of my potty training ordeals with this stubborn little girl? If you don't, go look them up on my blog. It's been ups and downs, months of no accidents and months with 50 accidents.

Well, my girly has recently decided she is ONLY wearing skirts and dresses. So I made her a deal. She must stay dry all day to wear her skirt/dress all day. If she has an accident, she has to wear pants (and underwear) for the rest of the day.

I must say that this has worked for us. She does not always stay dry but she maybe has an accident every week or two.

Who knew that's what it would take? I find this to be a fair trade for us both.

And just in case you havent laughed enough today, here is Spidey at McDonald's today. I had NO idea he was dipping his bologna {we pack lunches and go play at the Mickey D's play place} in my friend's cup of ketchup...until I looked over and saw this. Crazy boy! My kids LOVE to dip. :)

Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday! We are off to Grandma's to dye eggs and get everything ready for the Easter egg hunt on Saturday.
